Off-road riding as a passenger

What is off-road driving?
Off-road driving is an extreme sport that involves driving an all-terrain vehicle or motorcycle on unpaved paths or specially prepared tracks. In my case, due to my disability related to quadriplegia, off-roading as a passenger in a 4x4 vehicle was the only option.
Finding someone willing to take me off-road was not difficult. Through a website offering various gifts, I got in touch with a driver who turned out to be a passionate off-roader and a history enthusiast of his area.
Is off-road driving safe?
Like any extreme sport, off-road driving comes with certain risks. Steep descents and ascents, as well as lateral slopes, are inherently associated with the risk of rolling over or tipping the vehicle. During my first conversation with the driver, I made it clear that I am a person with a disability and would need additional support for my seat. Extra straps at chest and hip level provided me comfort and safety, allowing me to enjoy the ride without any worries.
Can people with disabilities experience off-roading independently?
While browsing the internet, I did not come across a disabled driver enjoying off-road driving. However, I see no reason why a person in a wheelchair couldn't try off-roading. Of course, a specially adapted vehicle and the assistance of a helper would be needed for getting in and in case of getting stuck in mud. I'm curious how many disabled people share this passion.
Off-road driving experience
The terrain on which I drove was very technically challenging. An additional obstacle was the light rain that had been falling since morning. Steep climbs, descents, and side slopes were quite impressive. I did not expect that an all-terrain vehicle could tackle such high elevations with ease. The very experienced driver definitely played a major role in navigating the obstacles smoothly.
After several minutes of off-roading, we also had the opportunity to explore the city of Brzeg and the Odra River, which flows beautifully through the area. At the end, we also had the chance to see the off-road racing track where the Brzeg 4x4 association organizes picnics and competitions for off-road enthusiasts.
Summary
Off-road driving turned out to be a very interesting experience. I had a great time (even though I was just a passenger) navigating through bumps, hills, and other obstacles. It's a bit of a shame that I didn't have the chance to drive through deep mud. However, common sense prevailed, as getting the vehicle stuck or rolling over with me inside could have been very dangerous.
I'm glad I fulfilled another dream that brought me a lot of joy and that I will remember for a long time.
