What is a gyroplane?

I found out about the existence of a gyroplane by accident while browsing a website offering various types of gifts. This vehicle, which resembles a helicopter, differs in that the rotor in a gyroplane is not powered by an engine, but by the airflow. I immediately wanted to take a flight in such a machine, especially in a model without a cabin, because I believe it gives a better sense of flying.

Is flying a gyroplane safe?

The first phone contact with the gyroplane pilot was very promising. There were no doubts when I mentioned that I was disabled. We set a date, and soon, along with a friend, I arrived at the pilot's house, which is located near his private airfield.

Placing me in the gyroplane cockpit with a lift had some minor issues. It was necessary to temporarily remove the front windshield. However, I was very pleased with the four-point seatbelts that secured me to the seat. I knew they would guarantee a stable position and full comfort during the flight. Additionally, gyroplane flights are characterized by smoothness and a high level of safety. They are practically impervious to wind gusts and do not go into spins.

Calm gyroplane takeoff and beautiful views

The takeoff, like the entire flight, was very calm, with no turbulence at all. It's a big difference compared to a flight of an ultralight trike or a flight on a powered parachute. Thanks to the sunny weather, I could admire the beautiful views. What impressed me the most was Jasna Góra in Częstochowa, the private Aviation Museum, and the Bełchatów Power Plant, located several kilometers away. The pilot gave an interesting explanation of the gyroplane's specifics and the landmarks we were flying over. During taxiing over some objects, there were significant tilts, but thanks to the proper safety belts, I felt very comfortable.

Exciting gyroplane landing

During the landing, I experienced the full capabilities of the gyroplane. The pilot reduced engine power, we stopped in place, and we descended quite rapidly. Despite the pilot's calm demeanor, my adrenaline spiked a bit. But after a moment, everything returned to normal, and we landed smoothly. I was very impressed with the pilot's skills, knowledge, and positive attitude.

After landing, I was filled with joy at having fulfilled another dream and experiencing flight again. I can sincerely recommend a gyroplane flight to anyone who wants to see the world from a bird's-eye view. There are absolutely no restrictions preventing people with disabilities from flying a gyroplane.
