Dziwnów
Picturesque Location of Dziwnów
Dziwnów is a charming tourist town situated between the Baltic Sea and the Dziwna River, offering visitors unforgettable views. Part of the town is located on the mainland, and crossing the drawbridge on the western side leads to Wolin Island. When searching for accommodation, we prioritized accessibility for people with disabilities and proximity to the sea. We were most satisfied with the apartment building located in the eastern part of Dziwnów. Despite minor inconveniences, such as entry through the garage (where the elevator was located) and limited access to the shower, we were pleased with this location.
Accessibility Features in Dziwnów
Moving around Dziwnów in a wheelchair is relatively easy due to new sidewalks and lowered curbs at pedestrian crossings. Visitors can easily reach the previously mentioned drawbridge, the Marina with its modern yachts and motorboats, and the breakwater with its new, friendly flat concrete surface. Occasionally, there are steep inclines that may pose a minor challenge for people with limited strength.
Promenade and Port in Dziwnów
Near the breakwater, the Promenade begins, stretching for over 2 km. It consists of three sections made of wooden planks at different heights, connected by steep ramps. However, this should not discourage visitors from enjoying this attraction, as the views more than make up for any inconvenience. Unfortunately, there is no wheelchair-accessible ramp to the beach here.
The end of the Promenade is somewhat steep but fully manageable for wheelchair users and ends close to the center of Dziwnów.
The Port in Dziwnów is also a significant tourist attraction that everyone can access without difficulty. The Port is located on the Dziwna River, providing views of the Wrzosowska Bay. A walk along the river is also fully accessible for people with limited mobility.
Cycling Routes and Exploring the Area
When in Dziwnów, using an electric wheelchair or a manual wheelchair with an electric attachment, it is worth taking advantage of the bike paths to explore nearby towns. Heading west, after a few kilometers, you will reach Międzywodzie, where you should visit the yacht port with beautiful views of Kamieński Lagoon. In the distance, you can also spot Kamień Pomorski with its historic Cathedral.
Heading east from Dziwnów, after just two kilometers, you will reach Dziwnówek. The main attraction here for people with disabilities is a beach access ramp for wheelchair users, located at the end of 1 Maja Street. Depending on the type of wheelchair or level of mobility, assistance may be required due to the steep start of this facility. Moving around Dziwnówek is easy and should not pose any difficulties for people with disabilities.
Dziwnówek is also the starting point for two cycling routes. The eastern route to Łukęcin is challenging and not recommended for wheelchair users, while the southern route to Kamień Pomorski is friendly and modern, ensuring a smooth ride.
Dziwnów - A Suitable Choice for People with Disabilities
Is Dziwnów a good place for people with disabilities? Definitely yes. Despite the lack of a beach ramp for wheelchair users, Dziwnów offers numerous amenities – from new sidewalks to a comfortable promenade and accessible bike paths to nearby towns. The picturesque location by the sea and river, along with the accessibility of key attractions, makes Dziwnów an ideal choice for relaxation, even for people with limited mobility.
