The Racławice Panorama

The Racławice Panorama is one of the most renowned works of art in Poland and a must-see landmark on the tourist map of Wrocław. This monumental painting, measuring 15 × 114 meters and depicting the Battle of Racławice from 1794, attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors each year from both Poland and abroad.
The last time I saw this incredible artwork was 35 years ago, and I decided to check whether, after all these years, I would still be as impressed as I was back when I was a teenager. An additional motivation was the fact that the rotunda housing the painting was recently thoroughly renovated and adapted for people with disabilities using wheelchairs.

Getting to the Racławice Panorama

The Racławice Panorama

Getting to the Racławice Panorama is easy, as it is located in the center of Wrocław and is well signposted. For those visiting by car, there is a parking lot directly next to the building, including a designated space for people with disabilities. However, the parking lot is small and has a gravel surface, and one dedicated space for such a major tourist attraction is certainly not enough.
To reach the building, you need to use a small path on the left side of the entrance doors. A sign directing wheelchair users to this path would definitely be helpful.

Accessibility of the Racławice Panorama

The Racławice Panorama is housed in a specially designed round building created specifically to display the panoramic painting. After a recent renovation, the building now meets many accessibility standards. In the main hall, there are stairs, but there is always an elevator available for people with disabilities.
To reach the viewing platform, from which the impressive painting is admired, visitors pass through a wide corridor with varying inclines. The platform itself is spacious but tilted toward the painting, which can make it a bit challenging to move around. Fortunately, even in a wheelchair, you can see every detail of this stunning work of art.
There is also an accessible restroom on the ground floor of the building that meets current accessibility standards.
