Palmiarnia (The Palm House)
Palmiarnia in Wałbrzych was established as a winter garden within the palace and garden complex of Książ Castle. Its construction was initiated by the castle's owner, Hans Heinrich XV von Pless, between 1911 and 1913 as a gift for his wife, Princess Daisy (Maria Theresa) — hence it is often referred to as "the most beautiful bouquet for Daisy." Palmiarnia is located about 2 km from Książ Castle. In front of Palmiarnia, there is a renovated and free parking lot with two spaces for people with disabilities.
Visiting Palmiarnia

After passing through the impressive gate of Palmiarnia, visitors follow a paved path of about 150 meters leading to the main building. The structure is topped with a dome rising to around 15 meters and is easily accessible by wheelchair. A unique, exotic atmosphere is created by interior walls and flooring made of volcanic tuff imported from Mount Etna — as many as seven train cars of material — forming grottoes, waterfalls, and rock formations. Visitors with disabilities can divide the tour into two parts: the right and the left wing. Whichever wing you choose first, you'll eventually encounter a tall staircase. At that point, you need to return and explore the opposite wing.
Visitors follow an approximately 500‑meter educational path, passing date palms, cycads, ferns, agaves, cacti, fig trees, eucalyptus, and citrus shrubs.
Additional Attractions in Palmiarnia

Palmiarnia is also home to various animals: turtles and fish swimming in ponds and aquariums, parrots, and white peacocks. You can relax in a stylish café set in a tropical atmosphere. On-site there's also a plant shop where you can purchase exotic plants for your own garden. Most importantly, the paths inside Palmiarnia are wide enough and have a solid surface free of obstacles — making every corner accessible in a wheelchair. Even with densely arranged displays, navigating by wheelchair was effortless.
The most striking attraction — literally — was a magnificent peacock made entirely of thousands of live flowers. I am full of admiration for the craftsmanship of the people who created this incredible piece. A smaller flower peacock was impressive, too.
Is It Worth Visiting Palmiarnia in Wałbrzych?
Palmiarnia in Wałbrzych is a masterpiece of architecture and a botanical paradise. Created out of love, it has retained its historical character and now delights with its rich plant collection and friendly animals. It's a place that's worth visiting — regardless of the season — especially if you plan to tour Książ Castle. A bonus: purchasing a ticket to Książ Castle automatically grants free access to stroll among the lush and majestic plants at Palmiarnia.
For me, as a wheelchair user, it was a pleasant and comfortable experience. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone seeking relaxation, educational value, and a touch of exoticism in a historical setting. It's not only a beautiful place but truly accessible to everyone.
