ZOO Wrocław – Accessibility for People with Disabilities

Wrocław ZOO, known as one of the oldest and largest tourist attractions in Poland, prides itself on being highly accessible for people with disabilities. At the main entrance, there are three designated parking spaces, marked with blue envelopes, specifically for visitors with disabilities. This is a significant convenience, as finding parking in the area can sometimes be challenging. Visitors with the appropriate permits can also enjoy discounted entry tickets, adding another layer of convenience.

Afrykarium in ZOO Wrocław – Accessible for People with Disabilities

The media and friends often mentioned the completion of a world-unique project in Wrocław ZOO that showcases various water ecosystems found in Africa. I also learned that the entire facility is accessible to people with disabilities, allowing everyone to admire the extraordinary species of African flora and fauna.
The Afrykarium building is massive, impressive with its modern architecture, and located about 200 meters from the main entrance to the ZOO. The tour begins with a gentle descent, leading to the vibrant Red Sea reefs. The rest of the tour is comfortable, with elevators transporting visitors to each section of the Afrykarium.

Afrykarium Attractions

The Afrykarium tour is divided into several unique sections, allowing visitors to explore the diversity of African ecosystems. In the East Africa section, you can see hippos, a multi-meter waterfall, and aquariums with fish from Lakes Malawi and Tanganyika. After passing under the waterfall, we take an elevator to the section dedicated to the Mozambique Channel fauna, which includes a beautiful, massive turtle, sharks, rays, and other fish species. The highlight of this section is an 18-meter acrylic tunnel, where you are surrounded from above and the sides by the various aquatic creatures mentioned earlier. It is an incredible experience when a ray or a turtle swims right overhead.

The Congo Section – End of the Tour

The final stage of the Afrykarium tour is the Congo jungle. We take an elevator to the upper level, where we see crocodiles lounging on the beach, and earlier, we could admire the massive bodies of manatees. It's also worth mentioning the outdoor part of the Afrykarium, where a metal walkway encircles the part of the building resembling the bow of the Titanic, offering views of African penguins and fur seals, which closely resemble common seals.

Bistro in the Afrykarium

After such an immersive experience with African wildlife, you can head to a bistro-style restaurant located at the end of the tour. The food was delicious and highly recommended. This spot is also accessible for people with disabilities, ensuring everyone can enjoy a meal comfortably after an engaging visit.

ZOO Wrocław and Afrykarium as Exemplary, Accessible Attractions for People with Disabilities

A visit to Wrocław ZOO and the Afrykarium is an excellent way to spend your time. I am thrilled that, thanks to my friends, I got to experience one of Wrocław's newest and most successful tourist attractions. I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to see African wildlife from above and below. Hats off to the ZOO Director for the idea of the Afrykarium and for bringing it to life. Thanks to people like him, we don't need to go abroad to see something truly fascinating and amazing.
Regarding the facility's accessibility for people with disabilities, I have no complaints; everyone, including wheelchair users, can experience the same sights as able-bodied visitors. Here's to more such tourist-friendly spots! Wrocław ZOO and the Afrykarium truly provide a complete, comfortable, and unforgettable experience for everyone, regardless of physical limitations.
